Our Mission
Our mission is to foster critical-thinking skills and a love for STEM among middle and elementary school students through exciting academic events and accessible educational resources.
ABMC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit affiliate and is run entirely by student volunteers from the Acton-Boxborough Regional High School in Massachusetts.
Motivation
ABMC was founded by Akshay Gowrishankar, Allen Wang, Antonio Frigo, Richard Huang, and David Lu in 2016. We would like to thank Ms. Kelly for assisting us in this endeavor.
The competition was designed with the intent than any student will have a chance to succeed in math. We accomplish this by having a great range of problem difficulties within each test and by having special awards for students in younger grades.
ABMC is proud of our role in stimulating an interest in math in students around the world. Our online contests reach competitors from countries like India and China and our contests are used by middle schoolers around the country to prepare for other competitions like Mathcounts or the AMC 8.
The Competition
ABMC is uniquely designed such that every participant can solve a sizable portion of the problems. The difficulty ranges from that of simple arithmetic, algebraic, and geometric problems to that of the AMC. All participants will have problems they can solve and problems that will challenge their mathematical problem-solving skills.
The onsite competition is in April and consists of speed, accuracy, and team rounds. Trophies, medals, and prizes are awarded to high-performing individuals and teams. See more information on our Rules page.
Additionally, ABMC provides free monthly online contests in October, November, and September. Since we reach hundreds of students annually through these contests, we would appreciate donations of any amount to help us cover the cost of awards, web hosting, and other operations.
